Instant payments are shaping the future of the U.S. payments ecosystem and stakeholders across the spectrum are directing their attention to it – merchants included. August’s Federal Register Notice marked a key milestone in the development of the FedNow Service, which will provide core clearing and settlement capabilities to support a broad range of transaction types and instant payments use cases. For the merchant community, the FedNow Service is an infrastructure to spur innovation at virtual and physical point-of-sale systems. It also presents an opportunity to explore greater efficiency gains and ways to enrich the customer experience. Hear FedNow Program Executive Ken Montgomery share an overview of the phased development plan for the service, initial features and functionality, and potential long-term impacts this new payments environment will create for the business community.
